Director Joseph Brooks also wrote and produced this story of a young woman's determination to follow her showbiz dreams. Laurie Robinson (Didi Conn) doesn't want to follow in her famous comedian father's footsteps. Desiring her own career as an actress and singer, she breaks off an engagement with her hometown sweetheart and hits the road. After auditioning for a film role, she quickly finds herself in an ill-fated relationship with the director. The memorable title song was a million-selling hit for Debby Boone and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Song.
