Nurses in a variety of care settings confront and attempt to deal with serious ethical dilemmas which affect their patients. Four sequences illustrate the principles of beneficence, autonomy, justice and fidelity. Case 1: hydroencephalic newborn. Case 2: use of restraints in a nursing home.
