| Gaby: A True Story
US-Mexico (1987): Drama
This film is about a young woman -- Gaby Brimer, the child of rich European refugees living in Mexico -- who was stricken with cerebral palsy at birth. Though her body is completely paralyzed, her mind is unaffected, and she is able to become a college graduate and an acclaimed author. Rachel Chagall (billed as Rachel Levin) is extraordinary in the title role and the film manages to be sensitive and affecting without being overly sentimental or maudlin. The cast also features Liv Ullmann, Norma Aleandro, Robert Loggia and Robert Beltran. (Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Movie Guide)
