Birdnesters of Thailand
(a.k.a. "Shadow Hunters")

US (1991): Documentary/Short

This National Geographic film examines the men who risk their lives in search of swiftlet bird nests, the main component of a dish that the Chinese consider a rare and exquisite delicacy and an elixir of youth. Scaling fragile bamboo scaffolding over 100 meters in the air, they detach the fragile nests from the walls using torch light. For six months of the year, they sail from island to island in southern Thailand in search of this "white gold." (National Geographic.com)
