Will, a charming, immature London bachelor (Hugh Grant), pretends to be a single dad in an attempt to enter the untapped dating pool of young single mothers. His deception leads him into a reluctant friendship with twelve-year-old Marcus (Nicholas Hoult), who is trying desperately to cope with his mother's depression and his own isolation at school.
