A young woman's search for love and independence is complicated by her large, traditional Greek family. When Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) decides she no longer wants to work as a waitress at her family's restaurant and then falls in love with a man who is not Greek (John Corbett), she must find a way to reconcile her choices with her family's expectations. Joel Zwick directs Nia Vardalos in her own screenplay.
