In 1950s Saigon, Thomas Fowler (Michael Caine), a correspondent for the London Times, befriends Alden Pyle (Brendan Fraser), a young American aid worker who soon falls in love with Fowler's Vietnamese girlfriend (Hai Yen). Amid the chaos of the country's rebellion against French colonialism, Fowler begins to suspect that Pyle may be involved in covert CIA operations. Christopher Hampton and Robert Schenkkan adapted Grham Green's novel; Phillip Noyce directs.
