When Lydia (Rosario Flores), a bullfighter, falls into a coma following a goring, her lover Marco (Dario Grandinetti) meets Benigno (Javier Cámara), a male nurse at the clinic where Lydia is hospitalized. It gradually becomes clear that Benigno's feelings for the young coma patient in his care, the beautiful Alicia (Leonor Watling), go far beyond those of nurse and patient.
