A hidden strain of discontent lies beneath the surface of wife and mother Connie Sumner's (Diane Lane) seemingly happy life. Following a meeting with a handsome rare book dealer (Olivier Martinez), Connie risks everything and embarks on a dangerous affair. Adapted by Alvin Sargent and William Broyles Jr. from Claude Chabrol's La Femme infidèle (1969) and directed by Adrian Lyne, the film also features Richard Gere and Erik Per Sullivan.
