Born in Paris, France. One of France's leading actresses who first earned critical praise at age 17 as a member of the Comédie Française. Adjani gained immediate stardom with her first major film role, in François Truffaut's THE STORY OF ADELE H (1975), and went on to appear in films by noted international directors including André Téchiné (BAROCCO, 1976), Werner Herzog (NOSFERATU, 1979), James Ivory (QUARTET, 1981) and Carlos Saura (ANTONIETA, 1982). CAMILLE CLAUDEL (1988), her first film as producer, was directed by former companion Bruno Nuytten, by whom she has a son.
