Noted playwright who occasionally wrote directly for the screen. Highlights of Anderson's original film work include ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930), (with Del Andrews and George Abbott) and Hitchcock's THE WRONG MAN (1956); of his numerous plays adapted for the screen by others, Michael Curtiz's THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX (1939) and John Huston's KEY LARGO (1948) stand out.
