George Barnes

Entered films in 1919 with Thomas H. Ince and for a quarter of a century was responsible for the cinematography of many of Hollywood's most prestigious productions, both silents and talkies, black and white and color. He worked with such directors as Fred Niblo, King Vidor, Henry King, Clarence Brown, Frank Capra, Ernst Lubitsch, Raoul Walsh, Frank Borzage, Fritz Lang, Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Siodmak, Billy Wilder and Cecil B. De Mille. He helped shape the career of Gregg Toland, who was his assistant. His seven wives included Joan Blondell (1932-36).
