Born in Kansas City, Missouri. Writer who entered American silent film by adapting a vaudeville sketch for THE KID AND THE SLEUTH (1912). A playwright as well as a screen writer, Barry's other film credits include THE UPSTART (1916) and HABIT (1921) -- both adapted from his plays -- IN OLD ARIZONA, THRU DIFFERENT EYES, THE VALIANT and THE COCK-EYED WORLD (all 1929), COURAGE, SONG O' MY HEART and SUSPICION (all 1930) and EAST LYNNE and OVER THE HILL (both 1931). His promising career was cut short by his death at the age of 46. His play Courage was again adapted to the screen in MY BILL (1938).
