Debuted on Broadway at the age of 13 and began her film career in 1940. A lasting, polished performer, Baxter was able to play the sweet and wholesome good girl (e.g. Orson Welles's THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, 1942) as well as the suspect bad girl (e.g. Fritz Lang's THE BLUE GARDENIA, 1953), and is best remembered as Bette Davis's scheming protege in ALL ABOUT EVE (1950). Her grandfather was architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
