Born in Atlanta, GA. Entered American film as a producer of short films for MGM in 1935 with the "Crime Does Not Pay" series and some of the Pete Smith and Robert Benchley comedy shorts. In 1938, he began producing the studio's Little Rascals series. In all, he produced over 100 shorts for Metro. By 1943, Chertok was producing features for Warners, such as Raoul Walsh's NORTHERN PURSUIT with Errol Flynn. Other feature credits include THE CONSPIRATORS (1944), THE CORN IS GREEN (1945, also set decorator), THE STRANGE WOMAN (1946), and THE DISHONORED WOMAN (1947). In the late 1940s, Chertok moved to television, producing the "The Lone Ranger," "Sky King," "Private Secretary," "My Favorite Martian" and "My Living Doll" series.
