Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia

An Edward Steichen portrait of the Lunts (1925)
Born in Woodford, Essex, England. She and her husband, Alfred Lunt, were the most formidable acting team in the history of the American theatre, but -- being strongly opposed to appearing on screen -- they appeared in only a handful of films: SECOND YOUTH (1924) and THE GUARDSMAN (1931). On her own, she appeared in THE MAN WHO FOUND HIMSELF (1925). She did appear with Lunt as herself in STAGE DOOR CANTEEN (1943), and in 1980 she was honored at the Kennedy Center Honors - A Celebration of the Performing Arts.
