Born in Illington, North Carolina. Playwright who had a short career in American film (sometimes billed as Professor Paul Green), starting with his adaptation for Michael Curtiz's THE CABIN IN THE COTTON (1932). This was followed by STATE FAIR, VOLTAIRE and DOCTOR BULL (all 1933), CAROLINA (from his play The House of Connelly) and WE LIVE AGAIN (uncredited) (both 1934). His books include Dramatic Heritage (1953) and Drama and the Weather: Some Notes and Papers on Life and the Theatre (1958).
