A color specialist since the early 20s, he photographed two-color sequences for BEN-HUR as early as 1925 and went on to become one of the most celebrated color cinematographers in the industry. His non-nominated credits include THE TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE (1936), THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and MEN WITH WINGS (both 1938), JESSE JAMES (1939), UNTAMED (1940), THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS (1941), JUNGLE BOOK (1942), ALI BABA AND THE FORTY THIEVES, THE CLIMAX and CAN'T HELP SINGING (all 1944), SALOME, WHERE SHE DANCED (1945), A NIGHT IN PARADISE (1946), PIRATES OF MONTEREY and TYCOON (both 1947), THE BIG CAT (1949), HIGH LONESOME (1950), AL JENNINGS OF OKLAHOMA (1951), THE BRIGAND (1952), THE GIRLS OF PLEASURE ISLAND, GUN BELT and RAIDERS OF THE SEVEN SEAS (all 1953) and THE VIOLENT MEN (1955).

 Special Awards 1936: For the color cinematography of the Selznick International production, THE GARDEN OF ALLAH. (w. Hal Rosson) Winners presented Plaques.
 Special Awards 1937: For the color photography of A STAR IS BORN. (This Award was recommended by a committee of leading cinematographers after viewing all the color pictures made during the year.) Winner presented a Plaque.
