Novelist and screenwriter who entered American film with SIDEWALKS OF NEW YORK (1931). Several of his novels were adapted to the screen: MY MAN GODFREY (1936), ROAD SHOW and UNEXPECTED UNCLE (both 1941) and THE HORSE IN THE GREY FLANNEL SUIT (1968, The Year of the Horse).
