He worked as an a.d. through the 1920s and became an editor at MGM in 1930 (THEY LEARNED ABOUT WOMEN, uncredited). Notable editing credits in a short 8-year career include MEN OF THE NORTH (also 1930), THE SIN OF MADELON CLAUDET (1931), TARZAN THE APE MAN, --BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK and RASPUTING AND THE MAD EMPRESS (all 1932), THE BARBARIAN (1933), TARZAN AND HIS MATE, THE GIRL FROM MISSOURI and FORSAKING ALL OTHERS (all 1934), AFTER OFFICE HOURS, ONE NEW YORK NIGHT, ESCAPADE, I LIVE MY LIFE and THREE LIVE GHOSTS (all 1935), SAN FRANCISCO and THE DEVIL IS A SISSY (both 1936), CONQUEST and THE GOOD EARTH (uncredited editing staff) (both 1937) and TEST PILOT and THE GREAT WALTZ (both 1938, both Academy Award nominations).
