The Merry Widow (1934)
Born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. Art director and set designer who entered American film with FLESH AND THE DEVIL (1926). Other notable credits include EXIT SMILING (also 1926), BECKY and ON ZE BOULEVARD (both 1927), BABY MINE (1928), THE PRIZEFIGHTER AND THE LADY, ANOTHER LANGUAGE, DINNER AT EIGHT, THE SOLITAIRE MAN and SHOULD LADIES BEHAVE (all 1933), RIPTIDE, HOLLYWOOD PARTY, SADIE McKEE and THE MERRY WIDOW (all 1934), ANNA KARENINA and A TALE OF TWO CITIES (both 1935), ROMEO AND JULIET, CAMILLE, WE WENT TO COLLEGE, WOMEN ARE TROUBLE and SWORN ENEMY (all 1936) and MAYTIME and NIGHT MUST FALL (both 1937, both assoc. art director). Hope died in Hollywood in 1937 following an appendectomy.
