Devereaux Jennings
(1884 - 1952)

Born in Utah, USA. Cinematographer (with over 80 credits) and creator of special photographic effects who entered American film as the cinematographer for Sidney Scott's MATRIMONY (1915) at Kay-Bee. He shot Tom Mix westerns at Fox and many other silent films, including THE EAGLE (1925, uncredited) and four films for Buster Keaton: BATTLING BUTLER (1926), THE GENERAL and COLLEGE (both 1927) and STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. (1928). Jennings made the transition to the sound era at Warner Bros. Some notable cinematographer credits include THE SAP and SALLY (both 1929), SONG OF THE WEST, BRIDE OF THE REGIMENT, OH, SAILOR BEWARE and DIVORCE AMONG FRIENDS (all 1930), FINN AND HATTIE, FIFTY MILLION FRENCHMEN, THE PUBLIC ENEMY and SIDE SHOW (all 1931), MANHATTAN PARADE, THE FAMOUS FERGUSON CASE and STRANGER IN TOWN (all 1932), RHYTHM ON THE ROOM (1935) and BORN TO THE WEST (a.k.a. HELL TOWN, 1937).

Jennings then started working in special photographic effects. Some of those notable credits include CHAMPAGNE WALTZ (1937), SPAWN OF THE NORTH (1938), PRACTICALLY YOURS (1944), THE SEARCHING WIND, TWO YEARS BEFORE THE MAST and THE DARK MIRROR (all 1946), BLAZE OF NOON and UNCONQUERED (both 1947), SAMSON AND DELILAH (1949) and THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952).

His brother was special photographic effects master Gordon Jennings (d. 1953).
