Born in Roseburg, Oregon; sometimes billed as Julian Josephson. Scenarist, story and screenwriter who entered American film as a co-scenarist for MOUNTAIN DEW (1917) at Triangle Film Prods. A very prolific writer in the days of silent film, he had 45 writing credits before his last silent -- DO YOUR DUTY (1928) -- at First National. His talkie credits (alone or in collaboration) include DISRAELI (1929), THE CLIMAX and THE GREEN GODDESS (both 1930), KISS ME AGAIN, MISBEHAVING LADIES, THE MILLIONAIRE, HELL BOUND and ALEXANDER HAMILTON (all 1931), THE MAN WHO PLAYED GOD, THE EXPERT and A SUCCESSFUL CALAMITY (all 1932), CHANCE AT HEAVEN (1933), WEE WILLIE WINKIE and HEIDI (both 1937), SUEZ (1938), STANLEY AND LIVINGSTONE and THE RAINS CAME (both 1939) and THE GREAT GUILDERSLEEVE and HAPPY LAND (both 1943).
