![]() An Edward Steichen portrait of the Lunts (1925) |
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Lynn Fontanne, were the most formidable acting team in the history of the American theatre, but -- being strongly opposed to appearing on screen -- they appeared in only a handful of films: SECOND YOUTH (1924) and THE GUARDSMAN (1931). On his own, he appeared in a few other films: BACKBONE (1923), THE RAGGED EDGE (1923), SALLY OF THE SAWDUST and LOVERS IN QUARANTINE (both 1925). He did appear as himself in SHOW BUSINESS AT WAR and STAGE DOOR CANTEEN (both 1943).
