Born in Pima, Arizona Territory (now Arizona, USA). Mason entered American film as a continuity writer for ARIZONA (1918) at Douglas Fairbanks Pictures. Early writing credits include BACKSTAGE (1927), THE BROADWAY MELODY (1929), THE GIRL SAID NO and THEY LEARNED ABOUT WOMEN (both 1930). She began working with her husband, Victor Heerman, in the early 30s after he gave up directing his best-known feature, ANIMAL CRACKERS (1930). They had collaborated on several scripts for several of his earlier films as director (THE POOR SIMP, 1920; THE CHICKEN IN THE CASE and A DIVORCE OF CONVENIENCE, both 1921; MODERN MATRIMONY, 1923). Together, their credits include LITTLE WOMEN (1933), IMITATION OF LIFE and THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (both 1934), THE MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION and BREAK OF HEARTS (both 1935), STELLA DALLAS (1937), GOLDEN BOY (1939) and A GIRL, A GUY AND A GOB (1941).
