William Slavens McNutt
(1885 - 1938)

Born in Urbana, Illinois. Story writer, screenwriter and adaptor who entered American film with THE WISE KID (1922, story). Other notable writing credits (alone or in collaboration) include YOUNG EAGLES and TOM SAWYER (both 1930), GUN SMOKE, HUCKLEBERRY FINN and TOUCHDOWN (all 1931), STRANGERS IN LOVE, THE BROKEN WING, LADY AND GENT and IF I HAD A MILLION ("Prologue" and "Grandma" segments) (all 1932), ONE SUNDAY AFTERNOON and HELL AND HIGH WATER (both 1933), YOU BELONG TO ME, MRS. WIGGS OF THE CABBAGE PATCH and READY FOR LOVE (all 1934), THE LIVES OF A BENGAL LANCER (1935) and UNMARRIED (1939).
