Born in Brooklyn, NY. Composer of stock music and songwriter who entered American film composing the score for OLD MAN BLUES (1932) at Paramount. In 1937 he moved to Columbia, where his stock music was used until 1959. His music or songs were used in 200 films, mostly as uncredited stock music.
Some films where he did receive credit include HATS OFF (1936), CHAMPAGNE WALTZ, IT CAN'T LAST FOREVER, IT'S ALL YOURS, THE LIFE OF THE PARTY, ALL-AMERICAN SWEETHEART, THE AWFUL TRUTH and CRIMINALS OF THE AIR (all 1937), LITTLE MISS ROUGHNECK and START CHEERING and THE LADY OBJECTS (all 1938), TEXAS STAMPEDE, BLONDIE MEETS THE BOSS and LAUGH IT OFF (all 1939), GLAMOUR FOR SALE and LI'L ABNER (both 1940), THE BIG STORE (1941), CINDERELLA SWINGS IT (1943), SHOW BUSINESS (1944), TRAIL STREET (1947) and WHEN THE GIRLS TAKE OVER (1962). His collaborators included Herb Magdison, Paul Francis Webster, Con Conrad & Milton Drake, Mitchell Parish, Leo McCarey, Sammy Lerner, Oscar Hammerstein II and George Jessel. Some notable song titles include "Champagne Waltz" (Lawrence Welk's theme song), "Cool Tango," "Everybody's Laughing," "Happiness," "I'll Dance at Your Wedding," "I'll Take Romance," "If I Love Again," "If It's You," "Java Jive," "Pink Cocktail for a Blue Lady," River River," "Summer Vacation" and "You May Not Remember."
