Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A veteran of the art departments of several Hollywood companies, he had his most prolific period in the 40s, when he was at RKO and collaborated on the art direction of several of the company's routine films.
Some notable non-nominated credits among his 275+ films include CURLY TOP (1935), THREE SMART GIRLS (1936), THAT CERTAIN AGE (1938), SON OF FRANKENSTEIN and YOU CAN'T CHEAT AN HONEST MAN, TOWER OF LONDON and DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (all 1939), THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS, MY LITTLE CHICKADEE, THE MUMMY'S HAND, THE BANK DICK and THE INVISIBLE WOMAN (all 1940), BUCK PRIVATES, IT STARTED WITH EVE, NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK and THE WOLF MAN (all 1941), MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER, SABOTEUR, INVISIBLE AGENT and THE MUMMY'S TOMB (all 1942), THE AMAZING MRS.
