Paul J. Smith
(1906 - 1980)

Composer Paul J. Smith penned the scores for Disney features and shorts of the 1930s, '40s, '50s and early '60s. A native of Michigan and formally trained in Chicago, Smith was hired by the studio in 1934. Three years later, he shared his first Oscar® nomination for SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS. Some of Smith's other notable non-nominated credits include SO DEAR TO MY HEART (1949), WATER BIRDS (1952), THE LIVING DESERT (1953), THE VANISHING PRAIRIE (1954), SECRETS OF LIFE (1956), PERRI (1957), THE SHAGGY DOG (1959), POLLYANNA (1960), THE PARENT TRAP (1961), MOON PILOT and BON VOYAGE! (both 1962) and THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA (1963).

(Not to be confused with the Paul J. Smith who was an animator-director of dozens of cartoons at Schlesinger/Vitaphone from the Harman & Ising days.)
