Composer and conductor who worked briefly in 1929 on NEW ORLEANS and THE WOLF SONG, then returned to Hollywood in the mid-1930s to head the Paramount studio music department. Some of his notable non-nominated credits include UNION PACIFIC and OF MICE AND MEN (both 1939), OUR TOWN (1940), TOPPER RETURNS (1941), LOST CANYON (1942), MARDI GRAS, THREE RUSSIAN GIRLS and THE WOMAN OF THE TOWN (all 1943), 3 "Henry Aldrich" films of 1944, CHAMPAGNE FOR TWO (1947), THE GANGSTER (1948), MY FRIEND IRMA (1949), UNION STATION and THE SUNDOWNERS (both 1950), THE SEARCH FOR BRIDEY MURPHY (1956), and as conductor for THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962), DONOVAN'S REEF and WHO'S MINDING THE STORE? (both 1963) and his last film, THE DISORDERLY ORDERLY (1964).
