Born Claire Wemlinger in New York City. Actress from the New York stage who made forays to Brooklyn to appear in Vitaphone shorts in the early 1930s before making her feature film debut in 1933. Trevor typically toiled as a hardened but sympathetic victim or gun moll in a host of B productions until she gained recognition for her fine performance as the classic, gold-hearted saloon gal in John Ford's classic western, STAGECOACH (1939).
In the 1940s and 50s, Trevor emerged as a star of several top-shelf works, notably KEY LARGO (1948) and THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954); she also appeared in a number of TV productions, receiving an Emmy for her performance opposite Fredric March in "Dodsworth" (1956). Other notable film credits include LIFE IN THE RAW (1933, her screen debut), DEAD END, SECOND HONEYMOON, ONE MILE FROM HEAVEN and BIG TOWN GIRL (all 1937), THE AMAZING DR.
