Story and screenwriter and adaptor who entered American film writing the story for Sam Wood's TELLING THE WORLD (1928) at MGM. Other notable writing credits (alone or in collaboration) include TRADER HORN (1931), MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE, THE ALL-AMERICAN and AIRMAIL (all 1932), CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS and SOULS AT SEA (both 1937), SPAWN OF THE NORTH (1938), George Stevens' THE TALK OF THE TOWN (1942) and SEALED CARGO (1951). In 1934, Van Every began also to produce; his notable credits include THE POOR RICH (assoc. producer, also writer), UNCERTAIN LADY and I'LL TELL THE WORLD (assoc. producer, also writer) (all 1934) and DR. CYCLOPS and RANGERS OF FORTUNE (both 1940).
Van Every is the author of a four-part series of books entitled The Frontier People of America.
