Composer, songwriter and musical director who entered American film composing the score for the silent film SHOW GIRL (1928) at First National. Other notable composing credits include NO, NO NANETTE, THE SONG OF THE FLAME and KISMET (all 1930), GREAT EXPECTATIONS (1934), THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD and KIND LADY (both 1935), AFTER THE THIN MAN (1936), NIGHT MUST FALL (1937), BOYS TOWN (1938), THE WOMEN and ANOTHER THIN MAN (both 1939), YOUNG TOM EDISON (1940), CHEERS FOR MISS BISHOP, TANKS A MILLION, ALL AMERICAN CO-ED and FIESTA (all 1941), FLYING WITH MUSIC (1942), PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1943), THE CLIMAX (1944), SALOME, WHERE SHE DANCED (1945), IT HAPPENED ON 5TH AVENUE (1947) and THE BABE RUTH STORY (1948). His stock music was used uncredited in dozens of films, and he composed uncredited in many others.
