Lawrence Weingarten

Born in Chicago, IL. He entered films as a publicist after WW I. In the late 20s he joined MGM, where he worked his way up from assistant to associate producer under Irving Thalberg. He married Thalberg's sister, Sylvia, and was later appointed production supervisor of the company's light films. He produced many films from the late 20s, dramas as well as comedies.

Some of Weingarten's notable producing credits include THE BROADWAY MELODY (1929, uncredited), WHEN LADIES MEET (1933, assoc. producer), LIBELED LADY (1936), THE LAST OF MRS. CHEYNEY and A DAY AT THE RACES (both 1937), BALALAIKA (1939), ADAM'S RIB (1949), PAT AND MIKE (1952), THE ACTRESS (1953), THE TENDER TRAP and I'LL CRY TOMORROW (both 1955), DON'T GO NEAR THE WATER (1957), CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958), PERIOD OF ADJUSTMENT (1962), THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN (1964) and his last film, THE IMPOSSIBLE YEARS (1968).
