Cinematographer who entered American film as 2nd camera operator on Fred Niblo's YOUNG DONOVAN'S KID (1931) at RKO. He worked as a camera operator at RKO (usually uncredited) until 1936 when he shot THE BIG GAME. Other cinematographer credits include PORTIAN ON TRIAL (1937), ARMY GIRL (1938), uncredited retakes and add'l shooting for CITIZEN KANE (1941), THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (1942, add'l uncredited scenes), STAGE DOOR CANTEEN (1943), Robert Montgomery's MURDER, MY SWEET (aka FAREWELL MY LOVELY, 1944), TYCOON (1947), PITFALL (1948), TWO TICKETS TO BROADWAY (1951), MACAO and SON OF PALEFACE (both 1952), GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) and his last film, John Wayne's famous turn as Genghis Khan in THE CONQUEROR (1956).
