Born in Chicago, IL. A child prodigy and a graduate of the Warsaw (Poland) Conservatory, he was a concert violinist before coming to Hollywood early in the sound era. He composed and arranged scores and wrote stock music and songs for over 350 productions, most at Paramount. Young was nominated for 22 Oscars before his first win. Unfortunately, he had died the year before the Award was given, and it was awarded posthumously. He holds the record for most nominations without wins.
