theOscarSite Bio: A British fashion writer and editor in the miniskirted 1960s, Allen married film producer Sanford Lieberson in 1966, which led to her start in movies. She served as a fashion consultant for KALEIDOSCOPE (1966) and supervised Julie Christie's wardrobe for DON'T LOOK NOW (1973). She began designing costumes in 1980 for Nicolas Roeg's BAD TIMING and Anthony Harvey's RICHARD'S THINGS. While preparing for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN she and the film's director, Ang Lee, studied Richard Avedon's photographs of the American West. Two of the snap-front shirts that she tailored for the movie's ill-starred lovers -- one a muted plaid, the other denim-- sold on eBay in 2006 for a total of $101,100.

A resident of London, England, she died from complications of a brain aneurysm suffered while working on the superhero movie JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in Australia.
