theOscarSite Bio: The daughter of actor Paul Ronan (b. Manchester, England, 1965), Saoirse Ronan began her acting career at the age of 9. After recurring roles on two Irish television series, "The Clinic" (2003-04) and "Proof" (2005), she began making movies. Among these have been Amy Heckerling's I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN (2007), starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd; Bill Clark's THE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE OF JONATHAN TOOMEY (also 2007), starring Joely Richardson and Tom Berenger; Joe Wright's ATONEMENT (also 2007), for which she received an Academy Award® nomination as Best Supporting Actress; and Gillian Armstrong's DEATH DEFYING ACTS (also 2007), starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Guy Pearce.

As of this writing (Jan08), Ms. Ronan is currently at work on Gil Kenan's CITY OF EMBER, a fantasy adventure in which she stars opposite Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, and Toby Jones, scheduled for a 2008 release. Her next film is Peter Jackson's THE LOVELY BONES, based on Alice Sebold's novel, in which she stars with Rachel Weisz and Ryan Gosling; it's slated for release in 2009.
