Born in San Francisco. Entered American film as an assistant director for the Rin-Tin-Tin feature BELOW THE LINE (1925) at Warner Bros. He began producing at Warners with 1929's THE AVIATOR. He remained at the lot through the 1930s and produced or executive produced over 100 films. In 1939 he began an association with British studios and directors, such as Zoltan Korda (THE FOUR FEATHERS, 1939) and Michael Powell (THE SPY IN BLACK, 1939). He worked at Columbia in 1941 for TEN DAYS IN PARIS and went to Metro in 1941. Production credits there include BILLY THE KID and BLOSSOMS IN THE DUST (both 1941), MR. AND MRS. NORTH and THE WAR AGAINST MRS. HADLEY (both 1942). After WW II, Asher started to freelance and produced or associate produced THE REDHEAD AND THE COWBOY and HERE COMES THE GROOM (both 1951), THE TURNING POINT (1952), THE STARS AR SINGING (1953) and ELEPHANT WALK (1954). In 1955, he moved to television and was executive producer for the TV series "The 20th Century-Fox Hour" (one episode), "Broken Arrow" (1956) and "How to Marry a Millionaire" (1957).
