The Pride of the Yankees (1942)
Born in Wisconsin, USA. Entered American film as a cinematographer for Constance Talmadge during the silent era (THE GOLDFISH and HER NIGHT OF ROMANCE, both 1924). Other silent credits include WILD JUSTICE (1925) and WOMEN LOVE DIAMONDS (1927). He made the transition to talkies with MEN OF THE NORTH and MONSIEUR LE FOX (both 1930), and SU ÚLTIMA NOCHE and PRIVATE LIVES (both 1931). In 1934, he became a special effects cameraman and contributed to THE HOUSE OF ROTHSCHILD, DEATH ON THE DIAMOND and KID MILLIONS (all 1934), CARDINAL RICHELIEU and THE CALL OF THE WILD (both 1935), DODSWORTH and COME AND GET IT (both 1936), THE HURRICANE (1937), THE COWBOY AND THE LADY (1938), STAGECOACH, WINTER CARNIVAL, ETERNALLY YOURS and THE REAL GLORY (all 1939), FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT and THE LONG VOYAGE HOME (both 1940), SUNDOWN (1941), THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES (1942), THEY GOT ME COVERED and THE NORTH STAR (both 1943), UP IN ARMS and THE PRINCESS AND THE PIRATE (both 1944), WHISTLE STOP and THE CHASE (both 1946), HEAVEN ONLY KNOWS (1947), NORTHWEST STAMPEDE (1948) and THE LAND UNKNOWN (1957).
