Robert Buckner

Born in Crewe, VA; studied at the University of Virginia and the University of Edinburgh. Started at 20 as London correspondent for the New York World. Later worked as an instructor at the Belgian Military Academy and as editor with several large New York publishers. A contributor of fiction to American and British magazines, he began writing original stories and screenplays for Hollywood films in 1937. Writing credits include JEZEBEL (1938), DODGE CITY and THE ANGELS WASH THEIR FACES (both 1939), VIRGINIA CITY, KNUTE ROCKNE ALL AMERICAN and SANTA FE TRAIL (all 1940), DIVE BOMBER and YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (both 1941), THE DESERT SONG (1943), BRIGHT VICTORY (1951), LOVE ME TENDER (1956), FROM HELL TO TEXAS (1958), and THE RETURN OF THE GUNFIGHTER (1967). Buckner began writing for television in 1956, and his TV credits include "Bonanza", "Hong Kong", "Burke's Law", "The Rogues" and "Disneyland."

From the early 1940s through the late 50s he was also active as producer for Warner Bros. and later other studios (17 films, mainly westerns but credits also include GOD IS MY CO-PILOT, 1945, and LIFE WITH FATHER, 1947).
