Born in Antioch, CA. Composer, conductor and arranger, educated at San Jose College (MA degree). He made many records as conductor of the Hollywood Bowl (which he conducted for ten years) and Capitol Symphony orchestras, and he composed, conducted and arranged for a number of American radio and television programs (including the "Standard School Broadcast" in 1949). He also conducted the Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, and several British television series, and he was a guest conductor for a number of American symphony orchestras. He joined ASCAP in 1950.

Dragon's composing credits include TEXAS (1941), MR. WRINKLE GOES TO WAR (1944), YOUNG WIDOW and THE STRANGE WOMAN (both 1946), OUT OF THE BLUE and DISHONORED LADY (both 1947), THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE (1948), KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE (1950), NIGHT IN THE MORNING, THE LAW AND THE LADY and THE PEOPLE AGAINST O'HARA (all 1951), WHEN IN ROME (1952), AT GUNPOINT (1955), and THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956).

As orchestrator or musical arranger (usually uncredited), his credits include PENNY SERENADE and YOU'LL NEVER GET RICH (both 1941), COVER GIRL (1944), THE KID FROM BROOKLYN (1946), and LOVELY TO LOOK AT (1952). He also composed stock music that was used in several films.
