Novelist, story and screenplay writer who entered American film with 1935's RUMBA at Paramount. Other writing credits, alone or in collaboration, include MARK OF THE VAMPIRE, THE RAVEN and MAD LOVE (all also 1935), THE DEVIL-DOLL and CAREFREE (both 1936), LADY FROM LOUISIANA and SHINING VICTORY (both 1941), SONG OF RUSSIA (1944), THE STORY OF G.I. JOE (1945), EL HOMBRE QUE AMÉ (1947), THE VICIOUS CIRCLE (1948), JOHNNY ALLEGRO and WHIRLPOOL (from his novel) (both 1949), HE RAN ALL THE WAY (front for Dalton Trumbo) and TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY (both 1951), THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (from his novel The Werewolf of Paris, 1961), and CAPTAIN SINBAD (1963, as "Harry Relis").
