Born in San Francisco, CA. Entered American film as a cameraman at Hi-Mark for their productions of AN ADVENTUROUS SOUL and THE THRILL SEEKERS (both 1927). In 1931, he began producing and directing Universal's "Strange As It Seems" series of shorts. This series ran for four years. Fairbanks then moved to Paramount in 1935 and produced its "Popular Science" series. He added the "Unusual Occupations" series in 1937. These two series ended in 1949. In 1941, he used his talent for animation in the popular "Speaking of Animals" series, in which the mouths of animals were animated to crack wise. He was called upon to use this technique to animate a camel's mouth in Paramount's ROAD TO UTOPIA (1946).
Fairbanks also produced in television, beginning in 1947 with the "Public Prosecutor" series. He was also producer for "Crusader Rabbit", "The Bigelow Theatre", and "Front Page Detective."
