A. Arnold Gillespie

Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia
Born in El Paso, TX. In films since 1922, he was art director for MGM from 1924 to 1936, then head of the company's special effects department. In all, he had hundreds of films to his credit and was the winner of four Academy Awards, one of which was Scientific/Technical.
