Born in Poughkeepsie, NY. Writer and, later, producer whose first recorded credit is his story for 1942's TALK OF THE TOWN at Columbia. Other notable writing credits include DRUMS IN THE DEEP SOUTH (1951), MUTINY and MARA MANU (both 1952), MAN CRAZY (also producer, 1953), and HAND IN HAND (1960). As a producer, Harmon's credits include THE BIG COMBO (1955), THE WILD PARTY (1956), MEN IN WAR (1957), GOD'S LITTLE ACRE (1958), ANNA LUCASTA and DAY OF THE OUTLAW (both 1959), THE THIN RED LINE (1964), and his last film, THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE (exec. prod., 1965).
In his early twenties, he became a "boy wonder" when he produced Kingsley's Men in White on Broadway. Harmon co-founded the Oakwood School in North Hollywod and, in 1959, he was co-founder of the Theatre Group at UCLA, with John Houseman and Robert Ryan.
