Born in Los Angeles, CA. Director of film and television who entered American film in 1921 as an uncredited editor for Frances Marion's THE LOVE LIGHT at the Mary Pickford Co. Heisler continued to work as a film editor until 1936, and cut such films as STELLA DALLAS (1925), CONDEMNED (1929), RAFFLES and WHOOPEE! (both 1930), ROMAN SCANDALS (1933), KID MILLIONS (1934), PETER IBBETSON (1935). and POPPY and THE BIG BROADCAST OF 1937 (both 1936).
In 1936, he began to direct, and his films include STRAIGHT FROM THE SHOULDER (1936), THE HURRICANE (1937, uncredited), THE BISCUIT EATER (1940), THE GLASS KEY (1942), ALONG CAME JONES (1945), BLUE SKIES (1946), SMASH UP: THE STORY OF A WOMAN (1947), TULSA (1949), DALLAS (1950), THE STAR (1952), I DIED A THOUSAND TIMES (1955), THE LONE RANGER (1956), and HITLER (1962). Moving to television in the mid-1950s, his credits in that medium include episodes of "77 Sunset Strip", "Gunsmoke", "Captain Grief", "Lawman", "Rawhide", "The Roaring '20s", "The Virginian" and "The Dakotas."
