Kitty Foyle (1940)
Born in Salt Lake City, UT. Entering the American film business as a writer at RKO for FINISHING SCHOOL (1934), he became a production associate and second unit unit director in 1935. By 1938, he was an associate producer, and his credits in that capacity include HAPPY LANDING, LITTLE MISS BROADWAY, HOLD THAT CO-ED, STRAIGHT PLACE AND SHOW and JUST AROUND THE CORNER (all 1938). Promoted to producer in 1939, his subsequent credits include IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU (1939), KITTY FOYLE: THE NATURAL HISTORY OF A WOMAN (1940), JOAN OF PARIS (1942), FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, MR. LUCKY, THE SKY'S THE LIMIT and TENDER COMRADE (all 1943), NONE BUT THE LONELY HEART (1944), PORTRAIT OF JENNIE (1948), and THE KING AND FOUR QUEENS (1956). Hempstead also wrote the story for HELL AND HIGH WATER (1954).
