Born in Syracuse, NY. Writer and producer who entered American film as an actor in THE WRECK OF THE HESPERUS for DeMille Pictures in 1927. Other screen acting credits include A SHIP COMES IN (1928), THE BARBER'S DAUGHTER, THE CONSTABULE and THE LUNKHEAD (all 1929), THE SPY (1931) and THE LUCKIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD (1936).
In the 1940s, Holves turned to screenwriting, and his credits include MR. LUCKY (1943), SALTY O'ROURKE (1945), JOHNNY O'CLOCK (1947, also assoc. prod.), MR. SOFT TOUCH (1949, also producer), BOOTS MALONE (1952, also producer), THE NAKED EARTH (1958), and A MATTER OF WHO (1961).
