Born Felix Joachimson in Hamburg, Germany. Playwright, screenwriter and (later) producer, whose play Wie werde ich reich und glüchlich? was adapted to the screen in Germany in 1930. Jackson entered German film with the screenplay for NIE WIEDER LIEBE in 1931, and a number of his plays and screenplays were produced there until he came to the US after KATHARINA DE LETZTE (1936). As a writer in the US, he worked alone or in collaboration on MAD ABOUT MUSIC, THE RAGE OF PARIS and THE GIRL DOWNSTAIRS (all 1938), THREE SMART GIRLS, THREE SMART GIRLS GROW UP and DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (all 1939), SPRING PARADE (1940), BACK STREET and APPOINTMENT FOR LOVE (both 1941), BROADWAY (1942), DESTRY (1954) and BUNDLE OF JOY (1956).
In addition to writing a number of films for Deanna Durbin (to whom he was married from 1945 to 1949), Jackson also produced HERS TO HOLD and HIS BUTLER'S SISTER (both 1943), CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, SENSATIONS OF 1945 and CAN'T HELP SINGING (all 1944), LADY ON A TRAIN (1945), BECAUSE OF HIM (1946), and I'LL BE YOURS (1947). In 1948, he began producing for television, and his credits in that medium include "Studio One", "Holiday Hotel", "The Best of Broadway", "The Restless Gun" and "The Third Man."
